Troy Korean War veteran Thomas J. Ryan Sr. of Troy was honored Monday at the January Honor a Deceased Veteran ceremony at the Rensselaer County Legislature.
Ryan served with the U.S. Navy from February 1952 to December 1953.
Ryan earned the Purple Heart and the National Defense Service Medal for his service.
``Thomas Ryan answered the call to duty during the Korean conflict and helped defend the freedom of our nation,'' legislative Veterans Committee chairman Roy Wright of North Greenbush said. ``Our nation, and all of Rensselaer County, owes the Ryan family our deep gratitude and admiration.''
