Aust stocks open mixed as market seeks direction =2 Sydney

Ord Minnett broker Eric Gale said he expected the market to "struggle a bit today",
despite the early bounce, which dissipated in the first half hour anyway.

"Probably the gold sector might have been off a bit more, but (for) this anouncement
by Harmony of South Africa to buy 20 per cent of Goldfields," Mr Gale told AAP.

"The market might be thinking there's a still a bit more of rationalisation to come
in the resources/gold sector of the market, so maybe that's just put a bit of a floor
